VLSI Research Group People
In 1990, Sun Microsystems formed Sun Labs by acquiring the consulting
firm of Sutherland, Sproull, and Associates. That year, Ivan Sutherland
and Bob Sproull founded the Asynchronous Circuits Research Group in Sun
Labs to continue their work in understanding and applying asynchronous
circuits to system design.
Today, the group is called the VLSI Research Group. Bob Sproull, a
Sun Fellow and VP, is the Director of Sun Labs. Ivan Sutherland, a Sun
Fellow and VP, is the technical leader of the VLSI Research Group,
which, under the management of Jeff Rulifson, consists of twenty
hardware and software researchers.
