ICO Prize to Ashok Krishnamoorthy

Ashok Krishnamoorthy, a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems

January 28, 2005 - The International Commission for Optics (ICO) has awarded the 2004 ICO
Prize to Ashok V. Krishnamoorthy, "For his outstanding contributions in
the areas of optical integrated circuit technology, free-space optical
interconnects, optical neural networks, and parallel computer
architectures, in both theoretical and experimental results". At Sun,
Ashok is a member of Theresa Sze's Technology Development team in SSG,
and is the optics expert for the DARPA HPCS project.
Ashok will collect the award at Trieste in the presence of
representatives of ICO and ICTP, where
he will deliver the ICO Prize 2004 Lecture. Ashok will also have the
opportunity to attend a three week College at Trieste, and to give a
seminar on his award-winning work.
About the ICO Prize:
The ICO Prize is awarded by the International Commission of Optics to an individual who has made noteworthy contributions to optics before reaching the age of 40.
