Tom has led the design and testing of two VLSI chips for the DARPA High Productivity Computing Systems project. Prior to joining the Asynchronous Design group, Tom led the bandwidth-reduction research for the WanRay project. The WanRay team's work led to the addition of WAN- and low-bandwidth capabillities to the Sun Ray (TM) product in the Fall of 2004.

Prior to joining Sun, Tom was a staff scientist in the Medium Energy Physics group at Argonne National Laboratory, working on the design and analysis of experiments scattering electrons off of atomic nuclei.

His research interests include Advanced Network Applications, Asynchronous circuits, electroproduction of hadrons, Graphics, High Performance Computing, High-speed CMOS Circuits, Java, Mobile Computing, Object Oriented Programming, Operating Systems, Software, Thermal management in electronics component level and system and thin client technology

Education:

* PhD Physics 1992, California Institute of Technology

* BA Physics 1986, University of California, Berkeley
