Tom has been at Sun since 1994 and SunLabs since last July. Starting
out on DOE, he jumped to FirstPerson as quickly as humanly possible to
work on Oak (aka Java). As a member of the JDK team, he worked on the
debugger interface, the AWT (rewriting the Windows native support and
co-designing the AWT's new event model), helped design Swing and managed
the Java Plug-in team. Currently he is working with Michael Van De
Vanter and James Gosling investigating tools to improve Java developer
productivity.
Prior to Sun, Tom worked as an operating systems and middleware
engineer on the PenPoint operating system at EO, the Patriot Partners
project at Metaphor, and on CTOS at Convergent Technologies. He spent
his early adult years as a professional musician, which thankfully
didn't destroy too many brain cells."
