Meeting Echoes

Recording and replaying events in a virtual world.

Primary Research Category: Network Clients
Principal Investigator: Bernard Horan

Project Overview

The Meeting Echoes project seeks to provide an answer to questions such as: "What happened in this space since I was last here?" within a virtual world. It's looking at how to record events that occur in a virtual environment so that they can be replayed, audited and indexed (and thus searched).

The project is focusing on using Wonderland as its exemplar and collaborates closely with the Collaborative Environments project.

The current status of the project is as follows:

  • October 2007: Project begins
  • July 2008: Audio and Video recorder modules added to 0.4 release of Project Wonderland
  • August 2008: Prototype implementation of event recorder using 0.4 release of Project Wonderland (discarded due to architectural change)
  • Jan 2009: Audio recorder module created for 0.5 dev release of Project Wonderland
  • June 2009 (Planned): Prototype event recorder and player for 0.5 dev release

(The idea was inspired by the "Time Space Visualiser" in the BBC TV Series Doctor Who.)
