Project Overview

Brazil is a completed research project that is currently being used in a variety of other research projects.

Brazil is a web application development environment ideal for web-enabling devices, aggregating content from other web applications, and building personal web portals that filter and modify aggregated content.

Capabilities include:

  • High performance caching proxy, which allows content from various devices and services to be assembled dynamically
  • HTML, XML, and pattern matching capabilities, which allows dynamic identification, filtering, and rewriting of remote content.

  • Integrated smart-card, security management, which provides authentication and security fabric required for early prototype deployments, where the security is not insured by underlying transport mechanisms.
  • Adapters to devices and other interfaces. Building interfaces between sensors, actuators, and user interfaces to the Brazil web infrastructure will, with the help of the proxy and content filtering, allow the devices to be "virtually" integrated into into content sites, without the need to modify any existing content.

  • The UPI (Url Programming Interface), an architecture for representing device capabilities as URL`s, allowing seamless integration into existing web-based service deployments.
