A New Technical Report from Sun LabsEnterprise Mobilityby Samita Chakrabarti, Erik Nordmark and Danny CohenIntroduction by Samita Chakrabarti June 29, 2006 -This document discusses issues related to user, device and application mobility in the Corporate environment. It also discusses device mobility and application connectivity, user environment, and ease of use across different campuses of the Corporate network and through the Internet. The document describes the network layer mobility solution that has been standardized at IETF along with security issues in the mobile environment. Finally, it provides a gap-analysis and guideline for the use of the technology. Wireless mobility is one of the most state-of-the-art technologies in the high-tech world. With China's and India's rising economies, ubiquitous usage of cell-phones and convergence of data, voice and video over the cellular and Internet, it affords Sun Microsystems a huge opportunity to play a significant role in its evolution. The work of this document is based upon a prototype work which placed Sun among one of the Mobility Technology players at IETF, the Internet protocol standards body. This document discusses many other ideas which can generate innovative solutions for today's corporate mobility issues. Although Sun does not yet provide a layer three mobility solution with its OS offerings, this report and prototype work can be a basis for further work towards the development of a product. Some of the ideas presented in this document may be used for further research in the wireless mobility technology area. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
