2007 Asynchronous Systems Conference

March 5, 2007 - On March 12-14, the University of California at Berkeley hosts the 13th International Symposium on Asynchronous Circuits and Systems (ASYNC 2007) - the premier forum for scientists and engineers to present their latest research findings on all aspects of asynchronous design.

This year, a special technical demo session on the afternoon of Monday, March 12, spotlights innovation and commercialization of asynchronous technology, with academia and industry presenters showcasing new experiments and advances in the field.

The technical program of 18 high-quality papers ranges from novel designs and architectures to on-chip test and measurements. The VLSI Research Group at Sun Microsystems Laboratories will present collaborative and in-house research results in three areas:

Notes on Pulse Signaling

A Configurable Asynchronous Pseudorandom Bit Sequence Generator

On Chip Samplers for Test and Debug of Asynchronous Circuits

Four distinguished speakers will add color and variety, complementing the technical program.

  • Jim Kajiya from Microsoft will talk about the relationship between charge and flux in traditional CMOS and superconducting circuits.

  • Carlo Sequin from UC Berkeley will describe some of his recent work in abstract geometric sculptures.

  • At the banquet, Steve Jacobson will give a profusely illustrated talk about micromechanical sensors, artificial limbs, the Bellagio fountains, the Jurassic Park dinosaurs, and other spectacular robotic devices.

  • Kevin Nowka from IBM Research will lead conference participants into the future of the world of semiconductor processing.

And to encourage participants to make new friends at ASYNC 2007 and catch up with old friends, the conference has scheduled a whole array of social events.
