This document presents the requirements for a language to describe the
capabilities of a transducer in a wireless transducer network (WTN).
It provides a survey of existing technologies in this field and
concludes with a framework in which the capabilities of a transducer
can be employed to assist users in the configuration of a WTN. The
intended audience for this paper comprises members of academic and
industrial research groups whose focus is networked devices, such as
those used in wireless sensor networks.
